Going out on Halloween night has been a tradition since our pre-walking days, right? Starting with your parents taking you trick-or-treating to collect gobbles of candy.
Thinking back to my younger days, I was being dressed up as "Big Bird" and set out with a pillow case to bank in on my treats that would be later x-rayed by
my doctor to ensure there was nothing dangerous in my goodies. Yeah, my mom was a tad cautious... but it was all in good intentions in the dangerous California neighborhood we lived in at the time.
On another occasion, my sister made me up as a red devil for grade costume contest. She always enjoyed dressing me up as a child- those were my most fond memories in my earlier years.
These memories are probably why the innocent spirit of Halloween has stayed with me throughout the years. Even though I'm way past trick-or-treating, I still enjoy getting dressed up, spooky movie marathons, passing out candy and going out to get togethers. Even though I'm all grown up, doesn't mean I have to turn into a fuddy dudd!
Bringing me to this years events!
Halloween fell on a Wednesday this year... meaning- not a whole heck of alot going on smack dab in the middle of a work week. However, I did hear of a "Zombie Prom" that was going on at San Felipe's Catina at Tempe Marketplace! The boys have been obsessed with the whole zombie fad between Call of Duty (a zombie hacking video game) and watching episodes of The Walking Dead (a zombie apocalypse survival series on TV). Naturally, when the event was mentioned... it was on!
I didn't want to dress up as the typical rotting piece of walking flesh so looked up alternatives to the name- zombie. I noticed the cute concept of a "Pin Up Zombie" from pictures of tattoos online. I still wanted to look girlie in a spooky way- kinda like a living dead girl. I wore an old back dress with slit to my thighs, a wrap that had been sprayed with fake blood, heels, fake eye lashes and mostly my own make up from eye liner and shadows with the addition of fake blood and grayish cream makeup base for the zombie side.

My boy went for the scary look. He had some old dress clothes he tore up. He made his face up, added an open flesh piece on his neck and brought a fake fleshy foot that looked as if it had been torn off someone. This served as a drink holder most of the night!
We looked pretty great.
Although we didn't win the Zombie Prom Queen and King contest, it was fun dancing the night away with some of our favorite peeps.
We got home at 2:30am... and had to be at work at 6am! Well worth it though :)
Post Happy Halloween!
