Lil Wee One

Life has a funny way of happening when you make other plans. I was in my 6^th semester (of 8) in nursing school when I noticed I was always feeling uncontrollably tired. I mean, nearly falling asleep EVERYWHERE! Little did I know, I would be finding out we would be expecting our first baby a couple weeks later! This is a complete miracle.  After a few serious conversations about what we saw in our futures, Boy and I had seen a fertility specialist a year ago and was told we needed testing after five years. Therefore, we were under the impression that we would need a lot of help conceiving and decided to wait until I was out of nursing school. Well… After the news, I realized the load of the program was taking a toll on me normally, let alone pregnant. I had to drop the busy accelerated nursing program I was in to focus on my health and family life. Turns out, this little wee one may just be the void that was missing in our lives all along. After the initial home tests I took at my sister’s house one day after work, I surprised him with the news by putting the all three of the tests in a baby bottle that was hidden in a gun case he had purchased (sure for close inspection). We laughed until the initial shock began to settle. Boy has gone to every appointment with me and has completely been there 150%. The first time we heard the heartbeat via ultrasound (at 8 weeks), I saw the loving smile and warm glow dress his face and knew I couldn’t ask for more. We saw the little tiny sac for the first time with a little tiny heart. Since then, I have has another ultrasound at 12 weeks. This one hit me hard as amazement and awe came over me as I witnessed what looked like a little healthy, growing baby moving within my womb. I couldn’t help but smile uncontrollably and giggle at times. Those little moments are perfect reminders that love and a simple life oversee all the trials we have that come our way. Boy and I have never been closer and more understanding with each other. Who knew one little tiny miracle could make the biggest changes in one’s life and we can’t even feel them yet.

To date:

We are now 12 weeks pregnant. We have shared the news with all our family, friends and coworkers. The estimated due date is April 21, 2016. We have gone back and forth on name but we have narrowed down a name for each (to be revealed at a later time). We have accumulated the cutest nursery furniture, but I honestly get a little overwhelmed shopping for the little things right now. I have experienced morning sickness with vomiting and intermittent nausea, fatigue and have lost my appetite with a weight loss of 4 pounds. Body changes are apparent, but totally worth it. I am told many of these things ease with time, until then… we are happy lil wee one is cooking happily and healthy.

How We Came Across Pearl!

 Saw her in an online generated website listing available homes on the market. I saw that it matched our price range and talked to the boy about viewing her.

The next day, I contacted the selling agent and dealt with the same realtor we had in the past when we viewed homes. It had been on the market for ten months. There were no offers.

The boy wasn’t able to view her with me, I chose to take my mom and step dad with me.

They saw it and agreed it was a good deal.

We bid. So did another person. On the same day! We lost.

We got called back. The other deal fell through. We bid, we won!

I paid the earnest payment, the down payment, the closing costs and signed the papers.

The keys were mailed!

We are homeowners!

Meet Pearl

She stands aside the Old Dominion mine in the historical district of Globe, Arizona. Globe, Arizona was founded in 1875, as a mining camp so you can only imagine the history it holds.  Pearl was originally built in 1905 and over the years has had an enclosed patio and a second bedroom added on to her. As it stands today, she is 1802 sq. ft. as a complete 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom with a separate powder room, an eat-in dining room, an enclosed patio and 3 partial, unfinished basements. Her neighbors are a baseball diamond, a dog park, 4 neighbors and an old school made into a charming bed and breakfast (complete with original chalk boards).

As you enter the corner lot, you are welcomed by the covered car port that is perfectly designed and hand crafted and surrounded by trees. To the left, there is a walkway to the side entrance through the kitchen. The walkway is paved and the perfect place for a bench or front porch swing. Following the walkway towards the side of the home, to the side yard, is a perfect spot of a small garden. Then, traveling down a three step set of old stairs, which leads to the back yard and entrance to the basements that can home a small yoga platform. Traveling to the side of the front yard (by the carport), lies a great spot for entertaining or relaxing under the trees.  

Now, envision we are back at the carport and entering the front door. The enclosed patio was historically used as a sleeping area for the occupants in the summer when temperatures were too uncomfortable to sleep in the home. However, now that modern technology has changed the cooling issues, this space will be used as a mud room to welcome all who enters and will also serve as a command center to keep organized. The next door will enter into the home. The living room is decently sized and will hold my photos and a few vintage furniture pieces I’ve collected. It leads into the formal dining room through the main passageway. There are also two doors, one leading to the master bedroom and the other leading to the powder room and bathroom. The dining room houses the big heater and coolant system. I envision a corner hutch with a formal dining room table with lots of family memories to be made. Kitchen access is gained through laundry area from the dining room. The kitchen is one of my favorite places in a home, but who could really choose? The kitchen has a vintage metal sink and cabinet set that will match perfectly with the vintage stove we purchased. The door leading to the side of the house is situated by the area where a small eat-in could be placed. Plans for the kitchen include adding a pantry or cabinets to accommodate such needs. To each side of the door are entrances to the bedrooms. The master bedroom has a really high ceiling and includes two closets and storage areas. The second bedroom is smaller and there ceiling isn’t as high, but would make a good room for a little one someday. Last, but not least, is the powder room and bathroom! One of the main selling points of this house was definitely the tub! The claw foot tub and toilet are in the bathroom offset from the powder room. Eventually plans are to move the sink into the powder room to create more room in the bathroom and add a sunflower or telephone shower in the claw foot tub unit.

In general, the house has the old doors, antique white paint, the metal sleeted exterior with wood frames, the claw foot tub and so much historic character. We would love to design the home in a way that compliments these sweet rimlets of times that once were. We plan to redo the original hardwood flooring and if this isn’t possible we decided to look into wood printed tile to give the appearance of hardwood.

Why Did You Name Her Pearl?

Pearl gained her name through her birth year. Pearl was a popular name of the time in 1905. Also, though she may need a little tinder, love and care, Pearl will continue to shine and marvel in Globe, AZ historic district.

Once renovations are complete, I will post before and after pictures. We am excited to make her our own and live happily within her existence.

She is a dream come true!
